Grading System

All work produced for a particular course of study is evaluated using the following grading system:

A 90-100 Superior; outstanding mastery of subject
B 80-89 Very good; better than average mastery of subject
C 70-79 Satisfactory; average mastery of subject
D 60-69 Passable; minimum acceptable mastery of subject to achieve credit but with significant deficiencies
F below 60 Failure; less than minimum acceptable mastery of subject necessary to achieve credit
I Incomplete
W Withdrew
WP/F Withdrew passing/failing

Academic Honors

  • Graduates earning a cumulative grade point average of 3.81 or higher for the entire college course of study are granted their degrees with Highest Honors (Summa cum laude).
  • Graduates earning a cumulative grade point average of 3.51 to 3.80 for the entire college course of study are granted their degrees with High Honors (magna cum laude).
  • Graduates earning a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 to 3.50 for the entire college course of study are granted their degrees with Honors (cum laude).

Academic Load

Carver students enrolled in 12 or more semester hours of credit obtain full-time status. Students who enroll in less than 12 hours are granted part-time status. The following list presents the number of semester hours of course credits needed to graduate at each academic level of study offered at Carver.

Access to Records

All current and former students have the right of access to their educational records in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974.

Academic Advising

Each student is assigned an academic advisor upon enrollment at Carver. Academic advisors are appointed to guide students in their selection of major and minor courses of study, and to help ensure that students successfully fulfill the requirements of each course by the end of each semester. The staff in the Office of Admissions and the Registrar are also available to counsel students about their chosen program of study.
