Dear Friend of Carver:
Thank you so so much for considering becoming a “teammate” in the ministry of Carver Bible College. By God’s enabling, we ran a strong race in 2006 in the work of Christ, and yet there is one more important challenge to meet within the first 90 days of 2007.
The College needs $3 million to play catch up with the huge costs associated with the long 9 year journey towards full accreditation with the Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE), provide a substantial boost to our annual fund and secure an additional 16 acres. This is a large goal to reach in that time frame ... which is why I’m grateful that some dear friends have committed a matching-gift for up to $1 million dollars to help meet this need.
These friends appreciate the College’s long journey towards full accreditation with the ABHE. They also understand the enormous costs associated with that accomplishment which included expanding our infrastructure from four full time employees to eighteen including three full-time faculty, a credentialed librarian and putting in place a credentialed administrative team and system that meets the needs of a modern educational institution.
These friends are also aware of the pressure we are under to raise funds for the colleges current annual fund while also raising funds to play catch up with the costs associated with accreditation. Currently, tuition covers only 20% of the College’s $2 million budget. The balance is covered by a combination of income derived from auxiliary income (4%) and the Annual Fund (76%). The annual fund with its goal of $1,520,000 is very important. These dollars provide Carver’s faculty and staff with the resources that create excellent educational experiences for our students.
A lot of our energy, every week, is geared towards raising funds for the Annual Fund while simultaneously playing catch up with the costs associated with accomplishing accreditation. If the remaining costs associated with accomplishing accreditation were removed, our energies could be solely directed towards fueling our Annual Fund and creating healthy reserves and even an endowment. We need reserves because of Carver’s difficulty to weather economic downturns. An endowment would provide surety for Carver’s future.
The good news is that our increased enrollment is diminishing the amount of the Annual Fund. This past fiscal year our enrollment of 105 students contributed through tuition revenue 20% of the annual budget. Our goals is to have 200 students by the fall of 2007, contributing 40% of the budget; 300 students by the fall of 2008 contributing 60% of the budget; and over 400 students by fall of 2009, contributing 80% of the budget. The Annual Fund then becomes 20% of our budget vs. the current 76%.
One of our country’s largest homebuilders’ plans to build a sub-division on 16 acres adjacent to Carver’s new campus recently fell through. They have given Carver the right of first refusal to secure the 16 acres. These friends know the significant role additional land can play in any institution’s future and they also know that we have a short period of time to act on this opportunity.
These friends (a couple) want their matching gift to encourage others to join in their support in helping a good college climb to being among the very best Bible colleges in the country. So they are challenging you and me and other members of Carver’s support team to help equal their matching gift commitment of $1 million through our gifts to the Lord’s work here at Carver Bible College by March 31, 2007. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to double your gift to the College.
I trust you will respond generously – in keeping with the spirit of the friends who gave this generous gift. It is now our turn, which is why I urge you to send your gift today. To be a part of this challenge, send your gift to the Advancement Office, Carver Bible College, 3870 Cascade Road, SW, Atlanta, GA 30331.
Thank you for prayerfully considering running this race with us! Countless lives will be impacted for eternity by your support of Carver Bible College.
Until He comes or calls,
Robert W. Crummie
President
P.S. Every year millions of young men and women make decisions to enter the work force. They embark upon careers that they have spent years preparing for. Many of them choose from a variety of careers in the marketplace, in education and public service. Others enter the military, pursue professional sports or a career involving the arts. Still, a large number of men and women choose some platform of ministry. Unlike many careers, ministry preparation is often not validated by formal training, particularly at the undergraduate level.
Who will ensure that men and women, particularly in the African-American community,
responding to God’s call to ministry receive the same quality preparation for their career
that others are afforded?
For over 63 years God has used Carver Bible College to glorify God by training men and
women in biblical truth to serve the church and reach the world for Jesus Christ.
Now with full accreditation with the Association for Biblical Higher Education, a new 15 acre Campus (and possibly an additional 16 acres), and a credentialed faculty and staff, Carver stands ready to educate, equip and encourage a new generation of emerging leaders responding to God’s call to ministry.
More and more of our potential leaders are becoming entangled in destructive
behaviors: sexual promiscuity, drug use and criminal activity. The vacuum is too often
filled with counterfeits to the real solution. Cults, gangs and false prophets stand ready to
reap the harvest of a lost generation.
Who will reach that young boy who does not know his earthly father? Who will steer that
wayward teenager back on the path to success? Who will provide an alternative
message to some of the persuasive, degrading and deceptive voices of the hip hop
community? Who will restore moral fiber into broken marriages?
Carver can and Carver will – thanks largely to the generosity of believing friends like you!
